campanelle
Campanelle is a distinguished gentleman
Interesting that I consider most of my boxes feminine; but, not this one. It has an old world feel about. Everything about this box was dictated by the materials. I love the way the Fortuny Campanelle flows on this box! The red velvet interior, the leather inserts and the nailhead spacing were all dictated by the demands of the box and the materials. I thought it felt like a Victorian gentleman’s possession - something they’d keep cuffs or neckties in. I had considered getting a brass plate for the top; but, couldn’t come up with anything neutral to put on it. The inside lid is leather too and was intended for a plaque with an inscription or dedication. At present he sits happily among antique books and rustic artifacts.
